Arthritis
There are two main types of arthritis—Osteoarthritis (OA) and Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)—and both can be painful and debilitating conditions.
Osteoarthritis most commonly occurs in older people with pains in knees and elbows often being put down to “wear and tear”. That wear and tear can cause a degeneration of cartilage, bones and surrounding tissue leading to stiffness and pain.
Rheumatoid arthritis is caused when the immune system attacks the joint tissue leading to swelling, inflammation and thus pain and stiffness.
How does Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy help with arthritis?
Highly-oxygenated blood helps reduce the inflammation often associated with rheumatoid arthritis. In suppressing the inflammatory response, it can reduce pain and stiffness but also can help slow the process of the disease.
For osteoarthritis, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy can also help in reducing inflammation, pain and stiffness, but it can sometimes help arrest tissue damage and, in some cases, help certain joint and bone tissues repair and recover.
